Biography:
Lemyra Vincent (1822-1859) was the only child of John Vincent, Jr., and his first wife, Mahaley Liggett. Her mother died from complications of her birth. John Vincent owned a farm near Mooresville, Maury Co. (later Marshall County). In 1858 Lemyra married Robert W. Tindell, a farmer in nearby Maury County. Like her mother, Lemyra died from complications of childbirth. She had one child, a little boy, who died at the age of 2 ½.
Description:
Lemyra’s sampler is part of the Little Dog group, samplers dating from 1831 to c. 1852. Her sampler, worked in silk on linen, is contains the distinctive characteristics—a small canine, a two-story house, scattered birds, a square floral cartouche, and a floral border.
