Frances Louisa Nolen, who went by the name Louisa or Lou, was the eldest child of Allen Thomas and Frances Ann Davis. Her father was a prosperous farmer in the Clovercroft/Nolensville area of Dist. 14 in Williamson County. Louisa died in 1885 and is buried in the Nolen-Hyde Cemetery in Williamson County.
Louisa’s sampler was most likely made in a female academy. Louisa may have attended school in Franklin, Triune, or College Grove. The Nolensville Female Academy was not chartered until 1850.
