Eliza Ann Owen was the eldest child of Richard A. Owen and Mary Temple. Her grandfather, Jabez Owen, was a wealthy planter, physician, and early settler of Williamson Co. He owned a considerable amount of land in the Concord Road-Wilson Pike area.
Eliza's unfinished and undated sampler can be dated to c. 1850 by comparison to the other samplers in this group. The large red flowers on a meandering vine is featured as a border on at least four other samplers.
