Martha Pride’s (1816-bef. 1860) parents Francis Pride and Mary Elizabeth Pinkey came to Tennessee via North Carolina sometime between 1810 and 1816, and settled on a farm near Springfield, Robertson County. Martha married David Elliott around 1830 and gave birth to three children.
Martha made her marking sampler about 1826 under the tutelage of Eliza W. Speer, who was known to have taught at a log school near a spring in Cedar Hill, Robertson County.
