Biography:
Eliza Jane Naomi Ramsey - Eliza Jane Naomi Ramsey (1801-1858) grew up in Knoxville, the daughter of Francis A. Ramsey and Peggy Alexander. She and her friend, Elizabeth Aylette, traveled to the Salem Female Academy in 1817 to go to school together.
Description:
Eliza Jane worked her sampler before she left Knoxville to travel to Salem Female Academy. This family death record quotes the text from the family Bible exactly, beginning with her mother Peggy’s name. Her verses are from a poem by Annis Boudinot Stockton (1736–1801), one of the first women to be published in pre-Revolutionary America.
