Mary E. Massey (1842-1922) was the only daughter born to Joseph H. Massey and Emily G. Carter. Her father was a farmer. Mary may have painted her theorem at the Lewisburg Female Academy, founded in 1838. Mary’s family moved frequently during her lifetime.
The TSS occasionally uncovers theorems in our fieldwork. The painting was accomplished with the aid of stencils. Mary’s name appears twice on the theorem, along with the name Jack.
