Biography:
Susan Elizabeth Barker (1831—1909), who sometimes went by Elizabeth, was born to Alexander Barker and Margaret Dodson. Her father was a farmer in Dist. 24, Maury County. As there were no female academies in Dist. 24 at the time, Susan Elizabeth likely made her sampler at a dame school or a subscription school. In 1852 she became the second wife of William Edwin Brazier, a wealthy man who was 14 years her senior. Her husband owned a farm near the Barker family. Susan Elizabeth never had any children of her own, but she was the step-mother to five of her husband’s children. She is buried in Rose Hill Cemetery, Columbia, Maury County.
