Biography:
Susan Denny Dysart (1831-1881) was born in the part of Bedford Co. that later became Marshall Co. She was the elder sister of Esther Elizabeth Clinton Dysart (1836-1878), whose sampler is also included in this exhibit (TSS 172).
Description:
This sampler is a fine example of the high style worked in Middle Tennessee. The large building, which may represent Solomon's Temple, is also found on the 1831 Minerva Ann Elam sampler (TSS 004). Susan worked a second sampler in 1851 (TSS 171), perhaps while her sister Clinton worked on hers.
