Biography:
Eliza Carter Alexander (1804-aft. 1860) was the youngest of seven children born to Eleazer Alexander and Margaret Carter. Eleazer’s family came to Maury Co. in 1808 or 1809 to settle on a land grant that had been given to her mother’s brother, Benjamin Carter, a Revolutionary War veteran. Eliza married Samuel Williamson Akin in 1822. Her husband owned a prosperous farm on the border of Maury and Williamson counties. The couple had ten children.
Description:
Eliza stitched her sampler when she was about nine years old. She included two locks of hair, one from Nancy M. Poss and one from James Poss, neither of whom has been identified.
